Expungement Legislation
New expungement legislation will take effect in Spring 2021. For too long, our justice system has been stacked against Black and Brown people and individuals with lower incomes, and a criminal record has unfortunately continued those consequences in perpetuity. Criminal charges have created barriers to employment, barriers to housing and others for hundreds of thousands of Michiganders. Hundreds of thousands of Michigan residents may be eligible to have their criminal record expunged under new laws, according to the state. Learn more.
